Brief Biographical Note
Victor Roudometof is associate professor of sociology with the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cyprus. His studies include Economics (B.A. University of Macedonia 1987), Sociology (M.A. Bowling Green State University, 1990) & History (M.A. University of Pittsburgh, 1994). As a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh he was awarded the 1992-93 interdisciplinary fellowship of the University's Program in Cultural Studies; as well as the Gerondelis Foundation pre-doctoral fellowship (Spring 1996). After receiving his PhD in Sociology & Cultural Studies (University of Pittsburgh, 1996) he was the recipient of the 1996-97 Mary Seeger O' Boyle Post-doctoral fellowship with the Program in Hellenic Studies at Princeton University. He joined the University of Cyprus as assistant professor in 2003. He previously held appointments with the American College of Thessaloniki (Thessaloniki, Greece), Washington & Lee University (Lexington, VA), & Miami University (Oxford, Ohio).
He is the author of four monographs: Nationalism, Globalization and Orthodoxy (Westport, CT: Greenwood, 2001), Collective Memory, National Identity & Ethnic Conflict (Westport, CT: Praeger, 2002), Globalization and Orthodox Christianity (London: Routledge, 2014) and Glocalization: A critical introduction (London: Routledge, 2016). Additionally, he has edited or co-edited five volumes on Americanization, transnationalism, nationalism & religion & several issues of refereed journals. His work has been translated and published in Greece, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia & Bulgaria. His publication record includes over 100 articles, volume chapters, encyclopedia entries, book reviews & review essays. He has served as reviewer for 40+ major social science journals, incl. Cultural Sociology, Current Sociology, Ethnic and Racial Studies, Sociology of Religion & Nations and Nationalism. He has served as external reviewer for evaluations conducted by major research centers as well as for international publishers & for governmental organizations. He is currently a member in the editorial boards of the European Journal of Social Theory (London: Sage), Journal of Levantine Studies (Jerusalem: Van Leer Jerusalem Institute), Nations and Nationalism (Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism, London School of Economics), the Greek Review for Social Research and the online journal Religions. He is Faculty Fellow with Yale University's Center for Cultural Sociology, Cyprus Correspondent for EUREL - Sociological and Legal Data on Religion in Europe and Cyprus Program Director for the European Values Study. He has served as Board Member with the International Sociological Association's Working Group on Comparative & Historical Sociology (2006 - 2010) and currently serves as Board Member of the European Sociological Association's Research Network 15 on Global, Transnational and Cosmopolitan Sociology (2015 - 2017).
